Operatie Periscoop is an organization that maps places in the public space that need attention and catalyses them through physical and social interventions into a pleasant social place where the main partner is the local resident. We call this Social Placemaking.
An important aspect for strengthening places is to broaden the perspective of the youth (and their parents) in the neighbourhoods where we work by bringing them into contact with various art forms. On the one hand, Operatie Periscoop does that with architecture, art (installations) and surprising performances in public space and on the other hand with cultural and arts education.
Operatie Periscoop mainly works with local parties, artists, designers and performers from the place where the interventions take place.
We believe in:
The wisdom of the community
Operatie Periscoop believes in the wisdom that is present in a neighbourhood or in a place. With residents and users, Operatie Periscoop maps places to get opportunities and bottlenecks up and then jointly develop actions for this. Precisely where a fixed situation seems to have arisen, Operatie Periscoop can offer a solution by working from the positive forces in the neighbourhood.
Diversity
Diversity is the starting point for us. Operatie Periscoop is convinced that a city only works when everyone feels involved and can be heard.
Generations
Young people and children have a knowledge and insight that adults can learn a lot from. By taking this knowledge seriously and supporting them in their intellectual and creative potential at the same time, we are building a closer society for now and in the future. At the same time this implies that different generations have different wisdom and that they should all be addressed.
Social Placemaking is our visual approach and the collaboration with artists. Research is directly linked to interventions so that the first changes are immediately realized.
